Antoon makes oil paintings, an important issue in his work are the so-called 'Lonely Subjects', lonely subjects against a big white background. Exhibitions and images are necessary to represent ideas; some ideas become icons and are a permanent symbol for a precise superidea. The subject is painted realistically, but the white or black background isolates it from the daily context. This datum makes the paintings non-realistical at the same time. The paintings give an isolated image out of reality, such as is indicated on the core. It is not just an image, but a view that brings to light hidden aspects of the existing world en charges them with meaning.
Ann Dieltjens makes abstract sculptures in a clear and simple formal language. Their interpretations are manifold. The work tells us something about evolutionary growth, architecture and industrial design, but also about universal human attitudes and relationships, archetypes and artefacts. And of course, there are also associations with the artist’s personal memories and emotions. In the fusion of all these elements, the opposites are set against each other: black versus white, organic versus constructed, mathematical versus arbitrary, introverted versus extroverted.
